REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Deputy Foreign Minister of North Korea Ri Kil Song will visit his Indonesian counterpart Retno LP Marsudi here to discuss political and economic cooperation.
The Democratic People's Republic of Korea's Ambassador to Indonesia Ri Jong Ryul said the Ministers will not discuss military issues.
"Ri Kil Song will not talk about military issues with Indonesia. The Vice-Minister will discuss economic and political cooperation," Jong Ryul said here on Tuesday.
Ri Kil Song is scheduled to visit Jakarta on Thursday (Feb 12).
According to the Ambassador, many Indonesian and North Korean leaders have made several state visits to each other's countries. "We will develop our economic ties through political cooperation," Ri Jong Ryul added.
The Indonesia-North Korea diplomatic relationship was established in 1961 and has since extended to the fields of trade, politics, investment, culture, and economics.
In October 2013, former Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa visited North Korea to explore the possibilities of cooperation in developing special economic zones in every province in the country.
North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Su-Yong visited Indonesia in August 2014 and met then president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and discussed cooperation possibilities in economics, socio-cultural fields, and sports.
The relation between the two countries also reflected in Kimilsungia flower festival, which is held every year in April to commemorate former North Korean leader Kim Il Sung.
Kimilsungia is a flower derived from Indonesia and was presented by former president Soekarno during Kim Il Sung's visit to the country in 1965.
