REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YANGON -- Strong wind hit Mandalay and Magway regions and Shan state in Myanmar over the last two days, uplifting some roofs of school buildings and uprooting some trees, official media reported Monday (20/4).
The areas, swept by the strong wind in the pre-monsoon period, covered Mandalay region's Mattaya, Magway region's Aung Lan and Shan state's Namhsan and Tachilek, said the Myanma Alin.
In a case of uprooting a century-old tree in Tachilek by the strong wind, four people were injured, the report added.
Since early this month which is the summer season, there has occurred tornado, landslide and storm also in some states and regions, according to earlier reports.
In a tornado that hit two villages in Phakant, Kachin state, three people were killed and five others injured with some school buildings being damaged.
In a landslide in a jade mining area in the same Phakant, nearly 70 people went missing.
A powerful storm that swept Tatkon, Nay Pyi Taw also severely destroyed some five school buildings and residential houses in 12 villages, bringing down some pylons also.
Triggered by strong wind, a power transmission tower near Shan state's capital of Taunggyi also collapsed, blacking out a number of nearby areas.
