REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, AMMAN -- Jordan said on Sunday that it developed a strategy to fight terrorism and extremism in various levels, the state-run Petra news agency reported.

Jordan's Minister of Interior Hussein Majali said at a meeting with a US delegation that the government is currently coordinating with all stakeholders to implement the strategy.

"The strategy is based on fighting extremist ideologies through dialogue and awareness. It entails cooperation with several countries to fight terrorist groups using different tools," he said.

Stressing that terrorism has nothing to do with Islam, the minister noted addressing political and economic challenges in the region plays a key role in eradicating terrorism.

The minister also said all security bodies in Jordan are on alert to protect the borders from threats, especially the smuggling of weapons and drugs into Jordan.

Jordan, a key US ally, is part of an international coalition fighting Islamic State (IS/ISIS) militants, and has vowed to help eliminate terrorism in the region.

In February, a video was released over the Internet, which showed a captured Jordanian pilot was burned to death by the IS militant group.
