REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUALA LUMPUR -- It’s reported that Malaysian forces arrived in Saudi Arabia to join Saudi-led coalition battling Houthi militia in Yemen, Alarabiya quoted from Saudi Press Agency, Sunday (10/5).
"With the move, the Asian country became the 12th state in the Saudi-led coalition after Senegal announced it would send 2,100 soldiers to Saudi Arabia to join the alliance," Alarabiya wrote.
But, Malaysia media said that the troop sent to Saudi aimed to evacuate Malaysian citizens trapped in Yemen.
Malaysia said that two of Royal Malaysian Air Force C-130 Transport Aircrafts would be positioned at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) at Prince Sultan Air Base (PSAB) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
“The FOB has been established at the PSAB as a ‘firm ground’ before departing to the evacuation location.
“Subsequently, our Malaysian citizens will be evacuated and returned to the FOB for safe passage to Malaysia," Armed Forces chief General Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin said refuting the rumors that his army used to combat Houthi, as quoted from The Rakyat Post, Monday (11/5).
