REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President of the World Bank Jim Yong Kim is set to visit Indonesia for four days, from May 19 to 22, as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation with the country.

According to the statement received in Jakarta on Monday, Kim is scheduled to meet President Joko Widodo, Vice President Jusuf Kalla, Governor of Yogyakarta Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X, Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro, and several other government officials and businessmen.

Kim stated that Indonesia is one of the most important countries among shareholders of the World Bank, especially the World Bank office in Jakarta. Set up in 1968, it was the first branch office to be opened outside of Washington D.C.

"We support the mission of President Joko Widodo to eradicate poverty and pursue prosperity that is more evenly distributed across this vast archipelago. Indonesia should be proud of the remarkable progress it has made and its achievements with regard to poverty reduction," he remarked.

He added that decreasing poverty to 11.3 percent in fifteen years was a great accomplishment.

In addition, the World Bank president believes that Indonesia will continue to reduce poverty faster to improve people's welfare.

In his four-day visit to Indonesia, Kim will be accompanied by Vice President for East Asia and the Pacific Region of the World Bank Axel van Trotsenburg, Country Director of World Bank Indonesia Rodrigo A. Chaves, Director for Asia and the Pacific of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Vivek Pathak, and Country Manager of IFC Indonesia Sarvesh Suri.

Moreover, Kim will also visit the World Bank's project of post-disaster reconstruction and health service centers (Rebuilding Indonesia's Communities After Disasters).

The next destination on his agenda is the world-class port of Sunda Kelapa and the Tanjung Priok port.

According to his schedule, Kim will attend a discussion at the University of Indonesia, Jakarta, on May 21.
