REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, NEW DELHI -- The death toll in rain-related incidents in the western Indian state of Gujarat has risen to 22, a senior official said Wednesday.
"With more deaths reported from various parts of the state, the toll now stands at 22. The deaths happened due to various incidents such as building collapse and electrocution," the official said.
Some people even died after drowning because of heavy flow of water in their areas, he said.
Heavy rains have been lashing Gujarat since Monday, bringing the state to a halt. The worst affected are Banaskantha and Kutch districts.
Disaster management officials have been working day and night, braving the rains, to rescue people trapped in the rains while authorities are trying their best to restore power in villages hit by rains.
