REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesian 70th Independence Day becomes a momentum for Indonesian Ambassador ofSpain, Yuli Mumpuni Widarso, to convey the economic diplomacy between Indonesia and Spain. The economic diplomacy program aims to encourage and facilitate the support from Spanish infrastructure business circles to participate in various infrastructure development activities in Indonesia.
The Indonesia Embassy in Madrid also aggressively promotes investment and infrastructure in Indonesia. Various activities have been presenting more than 170 corporate CEOs or Spanish infrastructure companies, including large companies such as OHL, Centunion, Abengoa, Gas Natural Fenosa, TYPSA, and AECOM.
The Spanish Minister of Trade, Dr. Jaime Garcia Legaz, will make a visit to Indonesia in September to bring a large delegation, consisting of businessmen and trade infrastructure.
On his visit, Indonesia Minister of Trade and Spanish Minister of Traden will discuss enhancement of trade of Indonesia and Spain. The volume of trade between the two countries do not currently reflect the potential of both, although in 2014 Indonesia's exports to Spain rose by 7.7 percent.
The low increase was due to the performance of Indonesian fishery product exports to Spain, which fell by about 33.3 percent, because Spain is the world's second largest importer of seafood.
"It is expected that the Indonesian government can have strong commitment to increase the capacity of the national fishing industry that is free from illegal fishing. It also will be able to improve the performance of commodity trading of Indonesian fish products to Spanish market with huge potential," Yuli said, Friday (21/8).
