REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Smokes from Indonesian forest fires had been reaching Singapore. Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya, said Singapore already offered their aircraft to help extinguishing the smoke in Indonesia.

"Indeed, yesterday they asked to send their aircraft," Siti said at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, Friday (11/9).

Siti admitted that she was currently coordinating with Ministry of Foreign Affairs related to technical assistance offered by Singapore. According to the plan, Singapore will send three aircraft to help extinguishing the smoke and flames through the air.

Based on satellite observation by Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the smoke was already started to cross Singapore. According to Siti, Singapore has been stated that their standard indices of air pollution have entered the category of less healthy as a result of smoke from Indonesia. Therefore, they offered best assistance to cope with the smoke that hit a number of cities in the country.

The Indonesian government has deployed about 1,000 military and police personnel to extinguish smokes and fires. In addition, 17 aircraft have also been deployed to five provinces where forest fires occurred.

"We've tried. I believe we can resolve this," Siti added.
