REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG -- Three women chess players from West Java have won four gold medals at the 17th Asian Age Chess Championship in Pattaya-Chonbury in Thailand.
"It is such a good result. The chess players from West Java won four gold and two bronze medals," West Java Indonesian Chess Federation's General Secretary Dicky Irvan Firmansyah stated in Bandung on Thursday.
The three chess players --- Dita Karenza, Diajeng T. Singgih, and Vania Vindi --- were accompanied by their coach, Lilis WN. The championship was held between May 29 and June 7.
According to Firmansyah, the chess players from West Java won their two gold medals in individual events, namely, individual lightning, and group lightning events,
Some of the best chess players in South-East Asia competed in various categories at the ASEAN level championship.
"We are extremely lucky to be able to participate in the competition. There were several quality chess players from different countries, and we were able to achieve a satisfying result," he emphasized.
With such an impressive result, Firmansyah is optimistic that the team would be able to deliver a promising performance in the upcoming National Sports Week (PON) XIX/2016.
Following the championship, their progress will be evaluated, and the strengths of the players will be identified for making future preparations for PON XIX/2016 in West Java.
