REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PERTH -- There are no reports of Indonesian students falling victim to the alleged terrorist attack on Turkey's Ataturk Airport on Tuesday night, June 28, according to the Indonesian Students' Association's (PPI's) statement received here on Wednesday.
Chairman of the PPI in Turkey Azwir Nazar confirmed on Wednesday that no reports had, so far, been received on Indonesian student and citizen casualties.
"We continue to communicate with friends in Turkey to update the information. Most of the Indonesian students in Turkey are now in Indonesia as they are having their summer holidays. However, there are also fellow students from other countries who were in transit at the Istanbul Airport today (June 29)," stated Azwir.
The summer holidays in Turkey will end in September.
According to the PPI in Turkey, on Tuesday (June 28), Indonesian students are returning home aboard the Royal Jordan Airlines, at 8:30 p.m. local time; Qatar Airlines, at 7:35 p.m. local time; and Turkish Airlines, at 2 a.m. local time on June 29, 2016.
"When the bomb exploded, our fellow students were already on the plane, both onboard the Royal Jordan and Qatar Airways, while two students, who were heading to the airport to board the Turkish Airlines, were stuck at the Yeni Bosna station, two stops before the airport. After the incident, the underground metro train to the airport was closed immediately," Azwir noted in a written message.
Currently, the flight to be taken by the two Indonesian students studying in Ankara has been canceled, and they are now staying at a friend's house in the neighborhood of Yeni Bosna, Istanbul.
