REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian government is expecting its trade with New Zealand to increase by 2024 from currently at around US$2 billion.

"We hope our relationship with New Zealand will lead to an increase in the trade by about US$ 1 billion to US$ 3 billion by 2024," the Minister of Trading, Thomas Lembong, said at the New Zealand-Indonesia Business Forum here on Monday.

He added that agricultural products and animal feeds were among Indonesian products that will help boost this mutual trade.

Trade in sectors such as education, e-commerce, tourism and services is also expected to increase.

The minister explained that currently, Indonesia is focusing on establishing cooperation with Australia as it will help promote its trading relationship with New Zealand, too.

"The trade relations between Indonesia and New Zealand will be positively influenced by our ties with Australia," Thomas said.

He added that the government was focusing on cooperation with these countries when it comes to international organization such as the World Trade Organization, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership and other multilateral forums.

Bilateral trade between Indonesia and New Zealand in 2014 was recorded at US$1.31 billion, but it slid to US$1.07 billion in 2015.
