REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SOLO -- Solo Batik Carnival (SBC) 9th is expected to develop potential in the city of Surakarta. Therefore, the Surakarta city administration encouraged to enhance the promotion of regional potential, especially in the cultural tourism sector.
"Increased participation of SBC is very important in order to next year more and more participants to follow it. Therefore, the promotion should be increased, so through this carnival can expose all the potential," Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said in a speech read by Assistant Deputy of marketing of Tourism Ministry Wati Kirani in the opening of Grand SBC in Sriwedari Park, Surakarta on Sunday (24/7) afternoon.
According to Wati, Solo which known as batik city should be able to maintain and utilize the cultural heritage of batik to revive the economy. Because he said this time batik become favourite fashion in international community. This become great opportunity especially for young designers to further expand and introduce batik.
Furthermore, Wati said that batik is expected to become a tourist attraction for both local and foreign tourists to visit Solo. The Ministry of Tourism noted Solo became the third city which most visited by tourists. Until the middle of this year, tourists who come to Solo has reached 39 million people.
However, that number has not reached the target. Where the year-end target incoming tourists can reach 40 million people. She added, the local revenue will increase.
"Not only batik, Solo is also known for its culinary. I hope SBC can inspire other regions. We hope that Surakarta move forward to develop tourism with SBC which more varied every year," Wati said.
