REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUALA LUMPUR -- Siti Aisyah, the 25-year-old Indonesian citizen being accused in the murder of Kim Jong-nam, was seen crying after the trial at the Shah Alam High Court, Selangor, on Friday.

Aisyah broke into tears while chatting with Indonesian Deputy Ambassador to Malaysia, Andreano Erwin, two embassy staffs, and some of her lawyers from Gooi and Azura law firm.

According to Erwin, she broke into tears after understanding that the trial was going to be a long process and that the evidences seemed to show an impression of her involvement in the murder case.

"As she was listening to the materials and seeing the witnesses during the trials, she started to be aware that it was going to be a long process. I think it is natural because she has not seen the outside world for quite some time and has not met her family either," Erwin stated.

To calm Aisyah down, he said that the evidences could not yet be proved as the trials would be processed in details.

Erwin asked Aisyah not to worry as the state would work hard to defend her by providing legal assistance. At the same time, he also asked Aisyah to be cooperative by recalling every little thing her lawyers had not yet delivered during the trial to help build arguments and rebut.

"We told her that this was still an unpredictable evidence, it is still being discussed at the next hearing. I tried to calm her down as the process was still continuing," Erwin noted.

Malaysia will begin the trial of Aisyah and Vietnamese female citizen Doan Thi Huong accused of the killing of the estranged half-brother of North Korea's leader, on Oct 2, the High Court said on Friday as reported by Reuters.

Aisyah and Huong are charged with murdering Kim Jong Nam at Kuala Lumpur airport on Feb 13 by smearing his face with VX, a chemical that was described by United Nations as a weapon of mass destruction.

"We will start in Oct," Judge Azmi Ariffin revealed.

"The hearing has been fixed for the second." Both cases would be tried jointly, with pleas taken at the first hearing, he added.

If convicted, the women could face the death penalty.

Prosecutor Muhamad Iskandar Ahmad remarked that the prosecution had given additional 33 documents and CCTV recordings to the defence and would call between 30 and 40 witnesses, depending on the progress of the trial.

"Having seen the CCTV recordings, I hope the judge will have a better understanding of how the situation took place," Gooi Soon Seng, Aisyah's lawyer, explained, adding that he had asked for a visit to the crime scene during the trial.

(QS. Asy-Syura ayat 14)
