SBY not enthusiastic over 'death sentence for corruption convicts'

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, CIREBON - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono shows chilly response towards suggestion from Nahdatul Ulama (NU) on death sentence for corruption convicts. President, while attending the biggest Islamic organization’s convention on Monday in Cirebon, only emphasized that government will consistently and consequently eradicate corruption.

"With support from ulama, we will keep consistent and consequent on eradicating corruption. We are not selective on combat the corruption," SBY said before the participants of NU Convention.

President SBY also invited all parties to support the party which eradicated corruption. "Whoever conducting the eradication of corruption, law must be enforced. Let us support KPK, Polri, Attorney, Constitutional Court, and of course lawyer," he said.

Before he made his speech, SBY was given proposal items from NU Summit by its Chairman Said Aqil Siroj. One of the items says that NU suggests death sentence for corruption convicts.
