REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUALA LUMPUR - Indonesia as country with the largest Muslim population in the world has opportunity to develop sharia tourism and promote it to local and global communities. Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sapta Nirwandar said Muslim population reached 1.6 billion people or 25 percent of world population.
"The bumber is huge and we must take some measures to get maximum benefits from Muslim sharia tour," Nirwandar said recently.
This potential is not only from Muslim majority countries, but also from developing countries or developed countries with Muslim population. Nirwandar said market for sharia tourism ranged from Europe such as Netherlands, France to developing countries despite Muslim communities are minority in those countries.
Indonesia needs to develop this sector supported by conducive infrastructure, facilities, regulations. Surely, the sharia tourism will no only attract Muslims but also non Muslims to visit.
