REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA -- President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has expressed hope that GP Ansor could be in the vanguard of the defense against radicalism to maintain the unity, cohesiveness and brotherhood of the nation.

"I wish GP Ansor could be in the vanguard of the fight against extreme radicalism, including terrorism. Protect the country from extreme, irresponsible movements. Make Indonesia peaceful," he said in his address at the 80th anniversary of the youth wing of one of the country's largest Islamic organizations, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), here on Saturday evening.

The President added that Indonesia must be able to become a nation that respects tolerance and brotherhood so that it remains united.

He also hoped that GP Ansor could contribute to advancing education, as well as encourage and lead the development of the people's economy to improve their welfare and alleviate poverty.
