REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- All Muslims need to understand the importance of having a spirit of sacrifice amid the economic slowdown, according to Muhammadiyah, the oldest and second-largest Muslim organization in Indonesia.

"In the context of the economic slowdown, having a spirit of sacrifice is very important. We should help each other," Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Propagation Institute Muhammad Ziyad affirmed here on Wednesday.

In the context of the nation's leader, Ziyad noted that the spirit of sacrifice can be applied in all aspects: the sacrifice of mind, energy, and time to boost the prosperity of the people.

"The Day of Sacrifice (Idul Adha) should not be marked ceremonially, but it should be applied in all aspects," he remarked.

He pointed out that the Muhammadiyah Propagation Center had slaughtered four cows and 39 goats.

"We are responsible for maintaining cleanliness during animal slaughtering here," he affirmed.

Ziyad stated that Muhammadiyah has been involved in the slaughter of animals in the field.

"The meat will be distributed to the poor," he affirmed.

Muhammadiyah will also send the meat of the sacrificed animals to some preachers in remote areas, such as Maluku and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

Earlier, it was reported that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will celebrate Idul Adha, or Day of Sacrifice, in the South Kalimantan provincial capital of Banjarmasin on Thursday.

"The president will celebrate the Day of Sacrifice in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan. He will leave for Banjarmasin tomorrow," Minister/State Secretary Pratikno stated in the premises of the Presidential Palace here on Tuesday.

From Banjarmasin, President Jokowi will head to North Sumatra to observe the latest condition of Mount Sinabung, which last erupted on September 5, 2015.

"The president is looking forward to accelerating the settlement of problems related to the eruption of Mount Sinabung, which is expected to show continued volcanic activity, and the problems cannot be settled temporarily," he stated.

For its part, the government needs to resettle the residents, who have fallen victim to the eruption of Mount Sinabung, to other areas and create more jobs for them.

According to Deputy Governor of North Sumatra Tengku Erry Nuradi, every refugee family displaced due to Mount Sinabung's eruption will receive a house and half a hectare of farming land from the government.
