REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The management of Jakarta's biggest Istiqlal mosque has allowed the participants of the Christmas mass service at the close by Jakarta Cathedral to access its parking lot.

Erik Muliawan, the spokesman of the church's Christmas celebration committee, stated here on Thursday that this demonstrates a form of tolerance developed between the church and mosque so far.

The Jakarta Cathedral has planned to hold three services at 5 p.m., 7:30 p.m., and 10 p.m. local time on Christmas Eve and five services on the Christmas Day.

Erik remarked that the first service on Christmas Eve will be led by Archbishop of Jakarta Mgr. Ignatius Suharyo.

He affirmed that the committee had provided 3,900 seats, so that the service is held smoothly.

Some 10-15 thousand people are expected to attend the Christmas services themed "Living Together as Family of Allah" at the cathedral.

Around 400 police officers will help to secure the services.
