REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PEKANBARU - The Meteorology station of The Institute of Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) Pekanbaru, Riau, predicts the extreme weather and cold wave in Europe will not affect Indonesia. "The circulation or weather condition exchange certainly will happen, whether it is from north to south or vice versa. Yet, the distance also affects the circulation of extreme condition," the Analyst of Meteorology station of BMKG Pekanbaru, Warih Budi Lestari.

Lestari said, the condition could disrupt the dispatching of cold wave to Indonesia directly. It is because the wave will be systematically neutralized. "The neutralization process happens as the cold wave passes the high temperature in several oceans. Or because the absorption of spreading wind," she said.

However, later Lestari admitted, there was still a possibility that the extreme weather could impact Indonesia. As the Earth rotates, the atmosphere above the surface intertwines. Weather uncertainty, stiff breeze, and high rainfall are some possible impacts on Indonesia.

The statement aims at responding to the statement of environmental expert from Universitas Riau (UR) Tengku Ariful Amir. Amir said, European cold wave would affect Indonesia although he admitted, the impact would not be too significant due to the distance between Europe and Indonesia.
