REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Talking about the mecca of world’s fashion, what country that crosses your mind? Aha… many of us think about France, Italy, US, United Kingdom, and Hong Kong.
Indonesia? It may never cross your mind… yet. The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Mari Elka Pangestu, challenges that. Instead, she said, Indonesia’s chance to become the world’s fashion capital is open widely. Indonesia is rich with creative people and cultural heritage and has a huge domestic market.
The first step to promote Indonesian fashion products is to hold ‘Indonesia Fashion Week’ (IFW). About 400 Indonesian fashion brands will be exhibited from 23-26 February in Jakarta Convention Center (JCC).
“The exhibition of prime products in local market is as potential as in global market. It also strengthens Indonesian branding in the world,” Pangestu said.
The project is the collaboration of the Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Trade, Ministry of Cooperatives and small-medium-enterprise (SME), and the Ministry of Tourism Affairs and Creative Economy.
The Ministry of Industry focuses on training and design development aspects, standardizing the products, and facilitating the Pilot Project Local Brand. The Ministry of Cooperatives and SME concentrates on developing the founding through entrepreneur training.
The Ministry of Trade is expected to facilitate the forming of local franchise business organization and train the export initiation to become exporter. While the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy facilitates the creation of local content for global inspiration and design development.
