REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Director of the Protection of Indonesian Citizen in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tatang Razak, has confirmed the news of a ferry with 12 Indonesian crews sank in 1,000 km south of Tokyo, Japan.
“The leaked ferry Masadena was in Yakushima, South Japan, and it has 10 crews and 2 captains from Indonesia,” Razak said on Monday.
The crews are reported in good condition. Japan's coastguard was Monday rushing to reach a sinking ferry after the troubled vessel put out a distress call, AFP reported.
"We received a call for help by radio," said a coastguard official, adding the boat was near to the southern island of Yakushima. The ferry was being taken from Onomichi in Japan's Hiroshima prefecture for use in Indonesia, said the official.
