REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Several national car producers discussed a plan to develop affordable car with the Ministry of Industry amid the increasing demand to produce national car in the last five years. Their target is national car market in 700cc class, and sold in domestic market only.

The market of 700cc car class was still empty, the Chairman of Federations of Indonesian Metal works and Machinery Industry Associations (Gamma), Dasep Ahmadi said on Tuesday. “So, we do not need to compete with foreign market,” he said in Jakarta. 

The market of 700 cc class offers good opportunity to local producers to sell their product. The car type would be either city car or village car. He believes that the city car would be more affordable than green car in 1,300 cc, which is sold below 100 million IDR. “City car type could be 15 million IDR cheaper,” he said.

The Director General of High Technology Leading Industry, Budi Dharmadi, said the initial stage in manufacturing national car was the coordinating the platforms of each company involved in the project. That would enable them to manufacture of car spare parts in large quantity to lower the cost and capital.

Companies joined the meeting are PT Super Gasindo (Tawon), PT INKA (Gea), PT Triangle Motor (Viar), PT Maha Era Motor (Mahator), PT Solo Manufaktur  Kreasi (Esemka), PT Kaisar Motor Indonesia (Kaisar), Kancil, PT Tossa Sakti (Tossa), Aaibus, PT Fin Komodo (Komodo), and PT Sarimas Ahmadi Pratama (Mobira). The platform of national car industry is planned to finish this year then start the manufacturing next year.
