Trapped in Kabul, four Indonesians are safe

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Four Indonesian journalists, M Farhan, Mohamad Sidiq, Heka Irawan, and Asep BS, are trapped in Taliban’s attack in Kabul, Afghanistan. They are now safe and staying in a hotel, 100 meters from Indonesian Embassy in Kabul.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Marty Natalegawa, has contacted Charge d’Affaires Ad Interim in the embassy and talked with M Farhan, who is also an Indonesian prominent presenter. Natalegawa also instructed the embassy to protect and ensure the safety of the journalists. 

“The ministry will facilitate their repatriation to Indonesia via Dubai on April 16 at 16.00 WS,” Natalegawa said on Monday on the press release.

The embassy was also urged to contact the Afghanistan Ministry for Foreign Affairs to ask for protection and attention to the Indonesian journalists. Afghanistan Embassy in Jakarta is also asked to give the protection and safety to the journalists until they reach Indonesia. The four journalists have been in Kabul since April 10, 2012 to train the staff of the Afghanistan Ministry of Counter Narcotics supported by the Colombo Plan.
