REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Lady Gaga's concert in Indonesia was officially cancelled, the promoter of Lady Gaga's concert in Indonesia, Big Daddy, said. The concert supposedly to be held on June 3, 2012 in Jakarta.

"After careful consideration, Lady Gaga`s management has cancelled the concert this morning," Big Daddy`s President Director Michael Rusli said here on Sunday.

Furthermore, Big Daddy`s lawyer Minola Sebayang explained there was a concern on the safety of Lady Gaga`s concert made the artist`s management decide to cancel the show. Sebayang denied the cancellation was due to the unreleased permit. "We actually have fulfill 95 percent of requirements to hold the concert in Jakarta," Minola said.

Opposition towards Lady Gaga`s plan to hold concert in Jakarta spread to various areas in Indonesia. People from groups such as the Islam Defenders Front (FPI), Indonesia`s second largest Muslim community Muhammadiyah and politicians had called on the promoter to cancel Lady Gaga`s concert in Jakarta.

FPI as stated by its spokesman, Munarman, felt grateful following Gaga's concert cancellation. He urged the promoter and entertainment industry to promote art that in line with Indonesian culture. "Don't promote culture of trash which ruins youth generation," he said firmly.

Objection also came from Buddhist Indonesian Legal Aid. The organization sent a letter to the Chief of Indonesian National Police, Timur Pradopo. “Gaga can impact the youth psychologically as young people easily imitate their idol. We urge the Buddhist to use their money to help each other,” the Chairmand of the organization, Budiman explained.

The Indonesian Children Protection Commission (KPAI) also came out in opposition to Lady Gaga in Jakarta, citing it could cause the demoralization of children.

KPAI Deputy Chairman Asrorun Niam Sholeh criticized promoter Big Daddy for encouraging students to watch the concert by allowing them to purchase tickets by paying in installments. The incentive could clearly demoralize the children, he said.
