REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesian Red Cross today sends volunteers and humanitarian relief for Rohingya in Rakhine, Myanmar. "Eight volunteers are going to Myanmar to help Rohingya people," head of Indonesian Red Cross Jusuf Kalla said in Halim Perdanakusumah Air Base.

Myanmar’s government grants them a visit permit since Myanmar’s President Thein Sein and Jusuf Kalla have built mutual good relationships long before Thein Sein became Myanmar president. “He has known me before he becomes president,” Kalla said. 

Access granted by the Myanmar government only to Indonesian Red Cross. The humanitarian aids are expected to help building solidarity in Muslim world. Indonesian Red Cross will also encourage neighboring countries and cooperate with OIC countries to provide aids needed such as food for Rohingya. 

Kalla said Indonesian Red Cross would hand in hand with Myanmar Red Cross, although he admitted that the process of coordination would take a year. “Especially for the rebuilding of victim’s houses,” Kalla said.

The total aids --consist of 500 hygiene kits, 3,000 blankets, and 10,000 saroong-- provided by Indonesian Red Cross values about a billion IDR. The Chief of Disaster Countermeasure in Indonesian Red Cross, Sumarsono, said the dispatch used the flight route from Jakarta-Medan-Yangoon to Sittwe Myanmar using BAE 146-200/PKJKC cargo aircraft. Sumarsono ensured that the relief would be directly handed to Rohingya.
