REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Afghanistan Ambassador to Indonesia, Ghulam Sakhi Ghairat, appreciated Indonesian commitment to train 50 personnel of the Afghanistan National Police in the field of capacity building. He said that it was an important step in friendly relationship and solidarity of both countries.

This training is listed on the MoU on Cooperation between Indonesian and Afghanistan Government in the field of Capacity Building for Law Enforcers signed by the Director General for Asia Pacific and African Affairs, Yuri O Thamrin and the Afghanistan Ambassador to Indonesia, Ghulam Sakhi Ghairat, in Jakarta.

He said that Afghanistan appreciated the cooperation to enhance capacity building in every sector. Meeting with Indonesia, he continued, had generated supports in politics, social, and others.

Ambassador Thamrin said the training was a part of Indonesia's commitment to assist Afghanistan, achieve stability, peace, and prosperity. "We agree to cooperate. We will work together," he said.

Based on indonesianconsulate.ae, the training will last for 14 days to cover the three abovementioned fields. It is being held in the fourth quarter of 2012.

This training program is a realization of Indonesia’s commitment which was reaffirmed by Indonesian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Marty Natalegawa, at the International Conference on Afghanistan in Bonn, Germany in December 2011, as a response to a request by the Afghanistan Government.

This plan has been the topic of President Yudhoyono’s talk with US President Barack Obama last November 2010 in Jakarta. The training will be financed by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) through the scheme of Law and Order Trust Fund in Afghanistan (LOTFA).
