REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, DENPASAR - About 323 fisheries products from Indonesia receive certification of Indonesian National Standard (SNI) by referring to international standard. The certification is aimed to guarantee the quality and safety of the products.

Secretary General of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Gellwynn Jusuf, said the paradigm on fishery commodity had been changed. "The concern is not only for food, but also its safety and cultivation," he said on Monday on the opening of Codex Committee on Fish and Fishery Product.

Government, committed to be actively involved, supports the effort to protect the health of consumers and fair trade. He also believes that the certification can increase state income on international trading transaction.

Director General of Fisheries Product Processing and Marketing, Saut Hutagalung, said that with certification government could enter new markets, such as South Africa and Nigeria, for canned food and Spain and Portugal for tuna. Indonesia will also try to enter Eastern Europe market such as Russia and Ukraine.

On the first semester of 2012, fisheries export reached 1.9 billion USD or increased on 17.92 percent compared to the same period in 2011. Government targets the fisheries export to reach 4.2 billion USD by the end of 2012.
