REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, CIREBON - Since government banned the export of raw rattan, the export of rattan furniture in Cirebon is increasing in around 40 percent. The calculation is based on the evaluation conducted by rattan entrepreneurs in Cirebon.
"It is fantastic. It is a significant growth," the Chairman of Indonesian Rattan Industry Worker (MPPRSI), Badrudin, said on Wednesday.
The export of rattan furniture in Cirebon was only 800 to 1,200 containers per month in 2005. The data in 2012 records that the export reaches 1,900 containers per month.
The target of the export is also widening. Besides Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium, the rattan also enters US, Eastern Europe, and Africa.
Before 2005, Cirebon was known as the biggest manufacture of rattan furniture in Indonesia. The products entered export market in several countries in the world. There was 460 manufactures of rattan and 632 exporters. The export before 2005 reached 2,000 - 4,000 containers per month.
