MER-C, an Indonesian NGO, wishes SBY to visit Gaza

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - An Indonesian non-governmental organization, Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C), wishes President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to visit North Gaza, Palestine.

"The second Indonesian President Soeharto visited Bosnia when the conflict emerged. And no we hope SBY will do the same by visiting Gaza," the Presidium of MER-C, Jose Rizal Jurnalis, said on Monday.

SBY arrival in Palestine is also expected to strengthen relationship between both countries, considering that Indonesia is a country with the biggest Muslim population in the world. About 28 MER-C activitsts are still in Bayt Lahiya, North Gaza, building Indonesian Hospital in Palestine. When the team arrived in Gaza last year, the war was only in military base. 

"Since Wednesday, the war has been escalating. There is no safe place anymore in Gaza," he said.

Jurnalis suggests the activists to take shelter inside the hospital. "It shows our entity that we do not have other interests than humanity," he said.
