REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB) announced on Tuesday that master plan to anticipate earthquake and tsunami disaster to be implemented in 2013.
"Considering the lack of preparation at community level, started in 2013, we will implement Master Plan of Tsunami Risk Management, based on Presidential Instruction for BNPB," the Head of Data Center, Information and Public Relations at BNPB, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, said on Thursday.
BNPB provides a trillion IDR for the master plan, while the total fund needed for the master plan is 16.7 trillion IDR for five years. Nugroho said the master plan, covering five tsunami-prone regions, would prioritize in Megathrust Mentawai, Sunda Strait, Java South Coast, Bali South Coast, Nusa Tenggara and Papua.
The master plan covers four programs. The first program is to strengthen the chain of early warning system, such as sirens, tsunami buoy, tidal wave equipments, and global positioning system. "Second, the building of temporary evacuation areas, such as shelter, evacuation route and socialization," he said.
Then, BNPB will enhance the capacity of Disaster Risk Management Forum, including the building of operational control center, training and contingency plan. "The last program is to build independency of disaster industry, including instrumental industry and small medium enterprises," he said.
