REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Governments of Indonesia and Australia have signed air service agreement (ASA) and memorandum of understanding (MoU) on safety flight and voyage.
"This agreement governs details of transport capacity, frequency and types of planes operated by each airline," Indonesian Minister of Transportation, EE Mangindaan, said on Thursday.
He added that Indonesia and Australia has achieved some progress in air transport as seen from the increasing number of air travelers. Therefore, government revised the air service agreement made in 1969.
The new agreement covers Indonesian territory based on UNCLOS 82 and tariff. He also hopes Indonesian national flight can utilize the growth of Indonesia-Australia air transportation.
Under the MoU on Indonesia-Australia air relations signed on July 15, 2011, both agreed to increase transport capacity for destination from and to Sydney, Melbourne (including Avalon), Brisbane, and Perth.
Besides ASA, both countries signed MoU on safety flight and voyage. The MoU helps Indonesia to build transportation safety system to prevent terrorism.
Meanwhile, Executive Director of Lion Air, Rusdi Kirana, said the airline was ready to provide flight from Denpasar-Adelaide and Kupang-Darwin.
