REPUBLIKA.CO.ID,  JAKARTA - Commissioner of the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), William D Magwood, visited Indonesia on Monday and met Indonesian Minister of Research and Technology, the head of National Nuclear Energy Agency (BATAN) and head of Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN).

Magwood said the meeting with BAPETEN was aimed to increase cooperation between US-NRC and BAPETEN. "The cooperation has begun since 2002," he said on Monday.

Magwood is scheduled to speak at Safety and Monitoring System for Nuclear Power Seminar and visit local facilities and nuclear installations. He claimed that his visit would give positive impact for Indonesia in terms of nuclear monitoring.

The Head of BAPETEN, Natio Lasman, expects Magwood's visit  about the monitoring of nuclear power plant and the managing of radioactive waste.
