Four foreign companies to invest in seaweed industry

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, NUSA DUA - Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Sharif Cicip Sutardjo said there were four foreign companies ready to invest seaweed industry in Indonesia this year. 

"The value reaches 165 billion IDR that will create 643 jobs," he said on Monday. 

Seaweed downstream industry in Indonesia, Sutardjo said, contributed to the development of commodity business by strengthening domestic industrial structure, increasing investment, adding values and increasing job opportunities. Here, there are more than 500 end products made from raw material of seaweed.

Indonesia hosted the 21st International Seaweed Symposium at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center. During the five day symposium, 50 countries discussed the latest developments in the seaweed industry, including the newest technology and the seaweed business worldwide.
