REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesian archaeologist reportedly discovered ancient skeletons as old as three thousand years old. It belonged to 66 people living in a cave in Sumatra.

"It was a surprise. I and my colleagues have never found so many skeletons in one cave before," said a researcher of Center for Research and Development of the National Archaeological Jakarta, Simanjuntak on Tuesday. The cave is known as Harimau Cave or Harimaru Cave and some skeletons of chicken, dog and pig also found there.

Thousands years ago, Simanjuntak said, Harimau Cave was located near a chalk cave in Sumatra. Ancient people used the cave to bury the dead.

"That explaines why there are so many skeletons older than three thousand year," he added. He said that there might be other caves in it which have not been identified.
