REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BENGKULU - Two giant flowers, Rafflesia arnoldis, are blossoming at Taba Penanjung Nature Reserve of Bengkulu. The flowers grow and blossom together that make Bengkulu people say both flowers as "the twins".
"The petals begin to open since Friday. Blossoming flowers can be enjoyed by visitors during the five days since the petals open," Coordinator of Community Care of Bengkulu Rare Flowers, Sofian Ramadhan said on Sunday.
Visitor can easily to see the uniqueness of this rare flowers. They are located 44 kilometers from Bengkulu city center. Visitor can use two-wheel or four-wheel driver about 60 minutes long. The distance from the highway is 10 meters.
Two weeks earlier, a Rafflesia flower with diameter of 85 centimeters was also in full bloom. The distance was only two meters away from its twin. Officers and residents already kept the flowers by placing a safety fence around flowers to protect them from humans and wildlifes.
Ramadhan said it was not easy to find twins Rafflesia flowers bloomed together. Rafflesia bloomed is usually only found one, but this time two flowers bloomed at once were scarce. Taba Penanjung Nature Reserve and Bukit Daun Protected Forest is a good habitat for the Rafflesia in Bengkulu.
