REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SENTANI - Many Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) personnel work double jobs in Puncak Jaya district, Papua. While serving to guard the area, they also work as teachers.
Luqman Arief for example, a military officer who feel obliged to encourage local people especially shildren at school age to get education.
"Actually, it is not our main duty to provide education but they are still lacking of teacher here and on the other side we don't mind to provide some assistance," Arief said.
Arief explained a soldier who became a teacher had a duty period for six to eight months. They don't teach every day, but only two to three times a week to have face to face session with their students. Despite some suggest to build an education facility like school, but the teaching process occupies some existing facilities since education is not in within fundamental military duty.
