Taekwondo athletes from 26 countries compete in Jakarta

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - For the first time Indonesia holds Asian Junior Taekwondo Championship in Jakarta on June 20-23, 2013. The event is followed by 400 athletes from 26 countries

"The Asian Championship is a great opportunity to encourage career of Indonesian taekwondo athletes before they go to the Rio de Janeiro Olympic in 2016," Chairman of the Executive Board of the Indonesian Taekwondo, Marciano Norman said on Friday.

Indonesia and Taiwan have the largest contingents as each contry sends 20 athletes. India sends 18 athletes, Lebanon 14 athletes, Uzbekistan 12 athletes, China 11 athletes, Iran 11 athletes, Vietnam 11 athletes and Malaysia sends 10 athletes. The championship has two categories divided into poomsae and kyorugi. This championship is also open opportunity for Indonesia to host the World Championships in Bali in October 2013.
