Saudi Arabia to extend amnesty for Indonesian workers

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Head of the National Agency for the Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (BNP2TKI), Moh Jumhur Hidayat appreciated government of Saudi Arabia after it extends amnesty for overstayed Indonesian workers until November 3, 2013. Previously, the amnesty only lasted until July 3, 2013.

"I'm grateful that government of Saudi Arabia can extend the amnesty so Indonesian workers or citizens can update the document service or Travel Document in Lieu of Passport (TDLP)," Hidayat said on Wednesday.

Hidayat said that Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono had asked for amnesty extension directly to the King of Saudi Arabia,  Abdullah Bin Abdul Azis Al Su’ud. The amnesty policy was applied to one million illegal foreign nationals in Saudi Arabia. There are about 120 thousands to 130 thousands  Indonesian workers and citizens in Saudi need the amnesty.
