REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Cosmetic has a promising market business in Indonesia. Nielsen survey results shows that dosmetic consumption in the first semester of 2013 has increased compared to same period in the last year.
Cosmetics consumption in urban areas grew 9.4 percent, from 554 billion to 606 billion products. Cosmetic consumption in rural areas increased 27.5 percent, from 64 billion to 82 billion products.
"This result is quite surprising that consumption of cosmetics in countryside on Java Island beyond cosmetics consumption in urban areas," Director of Home Service Panel, Nielsen Indonesia, Hellen Katherine said on Tuesday.
This survey revealed tremendous potential in rural areas in Java Island and manufacturers have opportunity to get this market. Decorative cosmetics market in Indonesia is still dominated by cosmetics for lips about 64 percent in urban areas and 75 percent in rural areas. Then it is followed by decorative cosmetics for eyes that is equal to 21 percent in urban areas and 16 percent in rural areas.
