President inagurates four steam power plants

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PACITAN--State Electricity Company has officially operated its four newest steam power plant as Presiden Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono inaugurated the plants with capacities 2x315 MW.

The projects were carried under President's Regulation N0. 71/2006, which required PLN to built power plants of phase I Fast Track Program, with total capacities of 10 thousand mega watts (MW).

Total capacity of four power plants reach 2,550 MW with their mainly function are to back up electricity demands and resolve power shortage in Java and Bali island

He appreciated the promising investment climate in East Java. "Hopefully, economy will grow and local people become prosperous," Yudhoyono said.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jero Wacik in the same occasion said the government commited to acceleration of power plants construction. President would soon inagurated Paiton 2 power plant with capacity of 1x660 MW, Lontar 3 power plant with capacity of 3x315 MW.

Capacity of Indonesia's power plants have been increased from 25,100 MW in 2004 to 30,300 MW in 2009. The capasities were expected to boost to 46,300 MW by 2013 and 16 thousand MW in next nine years.
