REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Jakarta Provincial Government plans to develop policy for all civil servants in city government to use public transportation once a week. Deputy Governor of Jakarta, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama said that this policy aimed to reduce number of private vehicles and to reduce congestion in capital city.

"Now, we still arrange the name of policy. It is still under consideration," the man who popularly known as Ahok said recently.

Even it is only once a week, this new rule is expected to give an example and motivates private vehicles users to switch to use public transportation.

"If you use public transportation, it automatically makes street more smoothly. It will make our officials are more likely to use public transportation rather than private vehicles in daily life," Ahok said.

Ahok said that many Jakarta officials currently use public transportation. In fact, Governor of Jakarta Joko Widodo (Jokowi) already uses a bicycle from his residence to his office in Menteng, Jakarta everyday.
