Govt to simplify power plant construction permit for industry

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Government will facilitate industry sector to build independent power plant. Director General of Electricity in Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jarman said that government would issue new regulation.

This regulation can be a way for investors to build power plants to supply industrial area. It will not always be located at industrial areas, but it can in other economical places.

"For example, another place where there is cheap energy, such as hydropower, mine mouth power plant and geothermal," Jarman said on Sunday.

In Cikarang industrial area for example, investors can make power plants anywhere. The electric power can be channeled through PLN transmission and power system. The power system is the distribution of electricity by private generators to an industrial zone that will use existing transmission network, which is operated by special unit system.

The result, electricity prices that are paid by industry is included the price of electricity from new plant, cost of power wheeling, cost of network losses, as well as cost of maintenance.
