REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono underlined that government must involve in shaping economy policy and could not allow Indonesia to adopt market economy. He said that Indonesia had chosen the mixed system between market economy and centrally planned economy.

According to Yudhoyono, government's control are needed in some areas, including in controlling inflation while price stability is one of Indonesia's macroeconomy pillars.

"Central government and the Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) have been working hard. Don't be apathetic," Yudhoyono said in Jakarta on Wednesday.

When fuel prices increased in 2005, 2008 and 2013, government had measured the impacts on the economy. However, when government could decrease the fuel price, but prices of goods kept soaring. Government, Yudhoyono cited an example, then asked the companies to reduce their products's prices.

"Without government's control, then the market could harm our economy," Yudhoyono said.
