PALYJA and police work together to stop water theft in N. Jakarta

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - PT PAM Lyonnaise Jaya (PALYJA) and Jakarta's police (Polda Metrojaya) took strict measures on water theft then raided some locations on September 1, 2014. PALYJA is drinking water supply and service operator in western region of DKI Jakarta.

The raid was in Pejagalan, Penjaringan, North Jakarta. The police found some water thanks at three locations looked like Water Treatment Plant (WTP)s facilities. The perpetrators disguised their trucks by installing pipe and water pump connected to PALYJA pipeline. Such practice normally used by the company to distribute the water to customers commercially. 

"These actions were the continuous implementations of PALYJA's long term strategy to keep reducing  leakage (NRW) of all kinds commercially and physically. Our strong commitment to chase water theft should be continuously carried out, by for example, cooperating with the relevant parties, especially POLDA Metro Jaya," PALYJA President Director Christophe Comte said in a written statement on Friday.  "We thank Polda Metro Jaya for its professional work so that the persons behind it could be caught and strict measures were taken." 

According to Comte, the strict measures aim to improve the company's service to its existing loyal customers as well as prospective customers since they deserve better for clean water. 

PALYJA works hard to stop water theft. Meanwhile, 1054 cases of water theft by customers were found during this period. Based on these findings, the company successfully saved a total of 430,000 m3 of water or equal to the consumption of 14,300 customers expressed its commitment to seriously and continuously make efforts to put an end to the water theft activity which is a waste and hampers the clean water services and very detrimental to the faithful customers and prospective customers who deserve more to enjoy clean water services in its service area,
