Indonesia exports nutmeg flowers to UAE

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MANADO - North Sulawesi, a province in Indonesia, ships nutmeg flowers to United Arab Emirates (UAE), to satisfy the growing demands from the country. The export contributes to state's foreign exchange reserve.

"We have exported 5.6 ton of nutmeg flowers, contributing to foreign exchange reserve up to 75,600 USD," said the Head of Industry and Trade Department of North Sulawesi Jenny Karouw on Sunday, November 9.

She claimed that the Arabs loved nutmeg flowers as they loved spices. The commodity can be turned into aromatherapy and drugs. 

Karouw hopes that farmers in Indonesia can use the opportunity by elevating the quality of the products. The center of nutmeg production is in Sitaro Island.

She targets the derived products of nutmeg from North Sulawesi can contribute to 70 persen of global demand. The department facilitates the exporters to get new market for the commodity.
