REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Government invites US to boost investment in Indonesia up to 61 billion USD for the next five years. The target is in line with President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo's target of 7 percent economic growth by 2018.

Head of Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Himawan Ariyoga said the investment target was sensible as the total bilateral investment from 2004-2012 was valued at 65 billion USD. "Indonesia has to attract more investment to reach 7 percent economic growth," he said on Wednesday, November 12, during the meeting with representative from US. Indonesia has suffered economic slowdown. Indonesia's economic growth rate decreased to 5.01 percent in the third quarter of this year.

Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdurrahman Muhammad Fachir said that Indonesia was open to cooperate with US. "We invite US to invest in infrastructure project," he said.

The meeting also talked on cooperation between Indonesia and US, focusing on three matters. The first is to enhance communication between government and businesses to discuss problems related to policies taken by government. Second point is to respect legal status of a contract and legal certainly. The last is to ensure ease on business.
