REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo visited Tanah Abang traditional market before opening the first day of trading at the Indonesia Stock Market (BEI) in 2015 here on Friday (2/1).
The President opened trading at the BEI Building on Jalan Sudirman at 9am after visiting Tanah Abang at around 8am, which was the first ever done by the country's head of state setting up a new tradition.
In the previous years, share trading used to be opened by the President or the vice president at BEI.
The BEI index was up 6.85 points or 0.13 percent to 5,233.80 at the opening of trading while the index of 45 blue chips or LQ45 moved up 1.73 points (0.19 percent) to 900.31.
The country's Rupiah meanwhile depreciated 43 points to Rp12.430 against the US dollar that morning from Rp12,387 before.
