REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The quota of subsidized fuel oils will decline by 62 percent to 17.85 million kiloliters in 2015 from 46.48 million kiloliters in 2014, state oil and gas company PT Pertamina predicted.

The government will only subsidize diesel oil and kerosene in 2015, Senior Deputy President for Fuel Oil Marketing and Distribution of Pertamina Suhartoko said, prior to a meeting with Commission VII of the House of Representatives (DPR) here on Tuesday.

"In 2015, diesel oil and kerosene consumption is projected to reach 17 million kiloliters and 850 thousand kiloliters, respectively," he added.

According to presidential regulation number 191/2014, subsidized fuel oils will only comprise diesel oil and kerosene, he stated, adding, "Premium gasoline will no longer be subsidized, so its quota will not be set."

Suhartoko further noted that diesel oil consumption, which stood at 15.95 million kiloliters in 2014, is projected to increase this year due to the increasing number of motor vehicles.

However, the consumption of kerosene, which was 916.6 thousand kiloliters last year, is expected to drop in 2015 because of the kerosene-to-gas conversion program.

Moreover, the government set itself the target of raising the number of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) consumers by two million this year, Suhartoko affirmed.

The senior Pertamina official also pointed out that the consumption of premium and pertamax gasoline is expected to reach 32 million kiloliters and two million kiloliters, respectively, in 2015.

Last year, consumption of premium gasoline touched 29.6 million kiloliters, while that of pertamax gasoline was 900 thousand kiloliters, he informed.

"We aim to increase the consumption of pertamax gasoline by more than 100 percent (this year)," Suhartoko said.
