Japanese investors praise new investment service

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Head of the Capital Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Franky Sibarani said Japanese investors were enthusiastic about the improvement in investment service pledged by the government.

"We are receiving many inquiries from prospective foreign investors about the government's pledge that the investment license would be available in three hours," Franky said.

Most inquiries came from Japanese investors, he said in a statement here on Monday.

Normally the process of licensing an investment would take up to 8 working days.

"Inquiries came mainly from new investors. They ask for more details about the requirements," Franky said.

BKPM already determine the standard procedure to wrap up the process of licensing in three hours and requirement to be met by prospective investors.

The requirements include that the investors must come themselves carrying the flow chart of their production process. The service is available for only projects valued at least Rp100 billion n and or project that could create at least 1,000 jobs for Indonesians.

BKPM recorded that in the period of 2010 to first half of 2015, Japanese invested US$13.68 billion in the country or the second largest after Singaporean investment.

In the past five years , Japanese invested in transport vehicle industry, and other transport equipment industry (53 percent) , metal, machine and electronic (17 percent) , chemical and pharmaceutical industry (7 percent) and food and textile industries respectively 4 percent.

Realization of Japanese investment plans reached Rp19.72 trillion in the first half of 2015, up from Rp16.19 trillion in the same period last year.

A number of local investors also asked for details of the fast service offered by BKPM.

"The service of finishing the process of licensing in three hours and on line system of applying for investment license are two breakthroughs offered by BKPM expected to be able to draw more investors to the country. Franky said.

BKPM has prepared five phases of implementing investment license in three hours, he said.

"Our hope is that the breakthrough in the licensing procedure would attract more investors to do business in the country and create more jobs," he addeed.
