REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo said that the Government, Bank Indonesia and Financial Services Authority (OJK) had taken steps to drive national economy by preparing economy policy packages. He considered these steps should be continued, so that the policy package would be up to 100 packages.
"Our consistency is that we are giving a strong message to businesses and public that the government is very serious about fundamental transformation of national economy," Jokowi said, at Presidential Office, Jakarta, Thursday (22/10).
President had asked Coordinating Minister for Economy and Minister of Finance to take concrete steps through fiscal instruments to help businesses in facing global economic pressures and improving business climate.
"The government needs to take steps to help companies to improve its financial performance through improved value of assets which was affected by the depreciation of rupiah and inflation," Jokowi added.
He also requested breakthrough steps to turn eight Special Economic Zones (SEZ) which had established that in Tanjung Lesung (Banten), Sei Mangkei (North Sumatra), Palu (Central Sulawesi), Bitung (North Sulawesi), Mandalika (NTB), Morotai (North Maluku), Tanjung Api-Api (South Sumatra) and Maloi Batuta Trans Kalimantan/MBTK (East Kalimantan).
President hoped, SEZ can bring capital flows and investments that create jobs.
"With incentives, facilities and services will be able to address concerns of the business community to invest in SEZ," Jokowi explained.
Additionally, Jokowi said the government needs to provide legal certainty in management of water resources after decision of Constitutional Court in terms of provision of water by businesses that invest in Indonesia.
Licensing in water resources management was held to provide protection for people's right to water, to meet the needs of the users of water resources and to protect water resources.
"I hope this groundbreaking step will provide legal certainty and ease of doing for businesses to drive national economy," he said.
